DAY 71
We're focusing on Deborah today. You'll read about one of her military conquests and what is called The Song of Deborah. If you want to do a bit of studying of the text, compare Chapter 5's description of things that have happened with Chapter 4's description. Let us know what you come up with.
Happy reading!
DAILY READINGS
DAILY NOTES
Judges 4
- This chapter tells of the prophetess Deborah's military conquest. There are many conversations to be had about her and her role.
- How did she become a prophetess?
- What she the only woman?
- Are prophets and judges the same?
- Barak is summoned by Deborah to plan the attack against Sisera.
- Deborah ensures Barak that the plan will work and that credit will be given to a woman! #GirlPower
- Sisera is defeated by a woman, but someone we did not think of.
Psalm 71
- The psalmist realizes that if he is going to ask for God's continual protection, he should be willing to give his continual praise (verse 6), hope (verse 14) and proclamation (verses 15, 17, 18, 24).
OTHER OBSERVATIONS
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
All of us have either been asked that question or have heard it repeated many times. Well, I've long since decided what I want to be when I grow up: a Psalm 71 man.
The psalmist is someone who has called on God his entire life. Now, he is of "old age and gray hairs," but he has not lost his zeal for God. He has not given up proclaiming the goodness of God. Because he knows who God is and what God has done, he cannot keep from declaring and singing God's praise.
What about you?
Stay blessed...john
